4 Videos To Get You Stoked On Longboarding

Here are four videos to get you stoked on long boarding! Check these out:

Super skilled, some of them highly competitive, the young men of Byron Bay seem like any little pack of Australian surfers over the generations. They rip, they vibe off each other, and they live in one of the best places on earth. But as Clem captures in this very sweet piece, while their style of surfing looks as playful as anything we’ve ever seen, they take it very seriously. They’re trying to up the ante on classic style, the thing Kai Ellice-Flint calls “full of grace, hands were down … relaxed.” In other words, effortless. It’s a style of surfing that’s always at risk of vanishing in a hectic, crowded world, but this crew is keeping it alive and thriving with the help of their friends. “We definitely bonded through surfing because we were like-minded surfers,” says Kai. “We all had an interest in riding longboards at the time, or alternative craft. We don’t get to surf enough — I wish we could surf a little more together. But having friends that surf at such a high calibre is such a treat.” Filming, interviewing and editing by Clementine Bourke. Featuring: Kahu Andronicus, Kai Ellice-Flint, Myles Doughman, Jack Entwhistle, Jack Lynch, Christian “Wispy” Barker, and Ryan Conklin.

I got to surf one of the best waves in the world with Devon Howard! Learned a ton about things I didn't expect to learn about. I also have a few reasons why you may want to avoid surfing here. Enjoy! Luke Shepardson - Winner Of The 2023 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational

The results are in!!! The winner of the 2023 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational at Waimea Bay is Luke Shepardson... I spent Sunday glued to my tv watching the Eddie live on youtube and I'm stoked I did. Check this out:

To celebrate & support The Eddie '23, Surfline will donate $25 to The Eddie Aikau Foundation for every new Surfline Premium annual membership for the next 24 hours. Surfline Premium is also 25% OFF for the duration of the offer. Offer ends on Jan-23 at 2PM PST. Follow the link: https://www.surfline.com/upgrade/?dis...

World's most iconic big-wave event returns to Waimea Bay. WHAT ARE WE WATCHING? The word “unique” is thrown around a lot. In this case, it fits. There is nothing like the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, inside surfing or out. The event has been placed on a three-month hold every Hawaiian winter for the past 34 years, and run only nine times — only when Waimea Bay offers itself up at 20 feet or bigger for a full day of surfing. It is run in the memory of Eddie: fantastic surfer, Hawaiian all the way through, the first lifeguard in North Shore history, who vanished in an impossibly heroic rescue effort off the capsized double hull canoe Hokule’a in March 1978. Surfers attend the event by invitation from the Aikau family, and there’s no greater honor in surfing. This year, a total of 40 surfers have been so honored. (See our list below.) The event format is simple: Two rounds of eight-person heats are held, so everyone gets to surf twice. Each surfer’s top four rides count toward a total score. Those top four rides can come from one or both heats, so a wobbly first heat isn’t the end of the world. But it wouldn’t be anyway. Just paddling out for one of these heats is prized by every surfer who’s ever taken part. There’s been nine winners of the Eddie so far. Nobody has ever won it twice. Former winners: Denton Miyamura (1987), Clyde Aikau (1986), Keone Downing (1990), Noah Johnson (1999), Ross Clarke-Jones (2001), Kelly Slater (2002), Bruce Irons (2004), Greg Long (2009), John Florence (2016)

KITV4's Malika Dudley spoke with Kelly Slater - who actually gave up his spot - for a longtime surfer who'd never competed in the Eddie before.

For the first time ever, women were included in the lineup to catch the monster waves out at Waimea Bay.

A historic day for surfing. The best of the best big wave surfers paddled out in giant Waimea to honor our Hawaiian Big Wave Hero, Eddie Aikau. Every single heat had the most amazing rides that had everyone on the edge of their seats. So thankful that everyone is safe and went home to their families. It wasn’t just a day of competition, it was a day of celebration. Another huge congratulations to North Shore lifeguard Luke Shepardson on his victory at the Eddie! Mahalo to the Aikau ohana @theeddieaikau @eddieaikaufoundation for putting on another historic event. 🎥 @aukaing @mikelatronic @brentbielmann 🎼 from our friends @thegreen808

California - The Biggest Swell in Decades.. Continues

California is still getting battered by massive waves this week... For some it's the biggest they have seen in decades. Stay safe and watch out for each other... Check it out:

Biggest is not always best. And in the case of last week’s Wild West swell — the biggest in decades to hit California — truth is, it was only actually good at a handful of spots during short windows of tide and wind, and/or at tucked-in nook-and-cranny novelty waves. (It also wreaked 17 different kinds of havoc across the state, washing over roadways, breaking piers and into harbors.) Yeah, it was a historic surf event which’ll be talked about in parking lots and lineups and coffee shops for years, and it rearranged the relationship with where we surf, but it (mostly) ended up being more spectacle than participatory. And above we present the spectacle, including a mad return to Todos Santos. With more on the way, especially Friday and Saturday across Southern California.

Huge sets, Surfline reporting 15-18ft earlier in morning Swell Direction WSW, W, WNW (medium to long period swells over 14sec are best) Surf Height Overhead to 4x overhead

Surfing Southside Seal Beach perfect spitting barrels with the second wave of swells that hit Southern California on 1/11/23

One of the largest swells in the past 15 years hit the west coast on Friday January 6, 2023. Thanks to surf forecaster Mike Durand with SwellMagnet for helping me sort out where to go for this swell. I was torn between Rincon and San Diego and opted to go where it would be biggest. Thanks for watching. I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand. Is The Eddie Is On???... Hawaii

It's that time... The Hawaiian surf at Waimea Bay is consistently 20 foot or bigger... I can't wait to see my heroes ride those mountains! Get ready for the Eddie!

According to the Aikau family, The Eddie is on. Read more at KHON2.com.

Paddling out to 3rd reef Pipeline is no easy task... Or is it? Its crazy how misleading and challenging this wave can be. Luckily after making it out a I was able to find some really fun waves but unfortunately broke my surfboard.

Waimea Bay, the world’s original best big wave, is currently pumping. And the world’s best big-wave surfers are currently tackling massive walls of North Pacific energy breaking across the storied North Shore reef. Impossible to look away.
