The Waves of Los Angeles

The waves of Los Angeles are not easy. You got to be ready for the wave of your life, or the beating of your life. I'm not talking about localism, although that's a thing in some breaks. I'm talking about the unpredictability of the waves, the lack of trust that a wave will hold up, the rush when everything lines up perfectly, and you get an unbelievable ride. Check this out:

A seldom seen day of great barrels and tons of talent in Los Angeles. For this mission I headed to the beach to film some insane waves. It was raining steadily all day but I managed to find a little shelter to keep me and my equipment dry. I doubt we'll see another day as good as this for a while. Thanks for watching. I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand. Music (in order): Ooyy (first 2), Loving Caliber, Sven Lindvall and Torii Wolf.

No pro surfers here today...

Sometimes it is worth watching a few surfers that might not be up to your level, just as a humble reminder about how far you have come... Oh and the water is a chilly 57 degrees (that's like ice water). So with that in mind here you go! check this out:

There isn't one pro surfer in todays surf episode. Filmed 5-8-2024 I headed to the beach today after checking the reports and seeing that we had fun surf. The waves were not epic but did have enough to give the local crew a fun time. Thanks for watching. I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand.

Longboarding, the best to the beginner (you know what I mean)

I really miss longboarding and I definitely need to make more plans to get healthy and get back in the water this year. Here are a few videos to get you and me motived to get back out there... check it out:

This video is all about the best of California soul surfing over the last two years. Most of the footage can be seen in the NobodySurf Originals series that I made for them. This is a unique collaboration with Jitzuwa Finder, who makes custom soundtracks for NobodySurf Originals. Also, I added footage that never made it to the series to come up with something new and exciting. - Supported by - NobodySurf (@nobody_surf) - Surfers - Erin Ashley (@wormtown) Ryan Burch (@bobbersandsinkers) Lauren Canavan (@laurenkatecanavan) Brooke Carlson (@brookiebu) River Covey (@rivercovey) Derrick Disney (@gado_gadooo) Zack Flores (@zack_floress) Devon Howard (@devon_howard) Rob Machado (@rob_machado) Kassia Meador (@kassiasurf) Nick Melanson (@nickmelanson) Barrett Miller (@barrettmiller_) Hallie Rohr (@haalliiee) Karina Rozunko (@karinarozunko) Mele Saili (@mele_saili) Jen Smith (@jensmithofaloha) Makala Smith (@shredsista) Joel Tudor (@joeljitsu) Tosh Tudor (@toshtudor) J.J. "What size longboard should I get?" A question i'm asked all the time and it's a tough one to answer. After doing this comparison my eyes have been opened to a few different ideas that I never considered. Hope this helps! Both boards are a COS Chingona. One is 9' and one is 9'6". Connect 4: LA, Byron Bay, Bali, and Puerto Escondido ....

What do LA, Byron Bay, Bali, and Puerto Escondido all have in common? That's right SURF! Let's check out what's been going on recently in these key spots... Check it out:

New swell brings pure CHAOS with it to El Porto beach. The good news... a mediocre swell finally hit. The bad: everyone was jonesing for waves and paddled out together. Thanks for watching! I'm Brad Jacobson and I'll sea ya on the sand.

I went down the Pass to film the surf for the Easter weekend and what did I come across, TOTAL CARNAGE. It was so crowded, the surfers were agitated, so there were drop-ins and accidents everywhere. To be honest I am surprised nobody got seriously hurt. Lots of people were watching from the rock where I was filming just for the entertainment factor of how dangerous it was. This break usually gets really crowded anyway, but add the Easter tourist and this place is total mayhem! Happy Surfing ForThoseWhoSurf Channel

We were fortunate enough to return to Bali a day before the biggest swell of the year slammed into the Indonesian archipelago. A small group of chargers took on this heavy righthand slab, with plenty of carnage and glory during the morning session. Mark Healy, Francisco Porcella, Pedro Calado, Lapo Coutinho and more cheat death with these extreme big wave wipeouts at MexPipe on the biggest swell ever ridden at Puerto Escondido, Mexico, and ask them how they survived INSANITY AT PUERTO. As dangerous as a car crash, more deadly than a train wreck, more risky than a head on collision, these thrill seekers layed their lives on the line at Playa Zicatela, Oaxaca for the ultimate daredevils prize: survival. The elite big wave spots Nazare, Jaws, Mavericks, Waimea Bay, Cortez Bank, Todos Santos, Teahupoo, Cloudbreak, Ghost Trees, Pipeline and Kanagawa all have a channel...Puerto Escondido does not, making these heroic chargers accomplishments that much more amazing.
