The Rise of Justine Dupont

This is such a great story of a fantastic big wave surfer! Check it out:

Justine Dupont’s à la folie showcases the “best year” of her surfing life From her beloved Nazaré and across the seas to Mavericks and Jaws, Justine Dupont just compiled a career season, but the Frenchwoman is far from finished. Over the 2020/21 Northern Hemisphere winter, French surfer Justine Dupont put on what some are calling the most dominant performance that female big wave riding has ever seen. Now, thanks to à la folie, a Red Bull Media House 32-minute biopic, you can join her for the highest highs and lowest lows, life-changing wipeouts and insane barrels. “À la folie means ‘with a lot of passion’”, says Justine. “It does for me anyway, because otherwise, it means ‘madness’, and that’s not what I see my surfing as. I definitely have a lot of passion when it comes to surfing big waves. “Last year was my best season yet, so it was a great feeling to have that all captured in this film, to show off how I was feeling, how I do everything with my team, and all of the work beyond just the surfing.” Justine Dupont’s history with surfing hasn’t always been geared towards big waves; rather, this has been a passion developed over years of exploring the ocean and all that it has to offer. She first started surfing at age 11, stealing her father’s shortboard to sneak off to the beach and get a few waves. A runner-up finish in the World Junior Championships in 2011 announced her arrival on the shortboard scene and she quickly qualified for the Championship Tour later that same year. Injury cut short her major league dreams but it didn’t stop the silverware mounting up on her multi-disciplinary mantlepiece. From world stand-up paddleboard titles to finals finishes in the world longboarding Dupont could do it all, but when she first tasted the adrenalin of tow surfing at Belharra, at home in France, she finally found the discipline that would come to consume her every waking moment. Shortly after the big wave passion gripped her, Dupont moved to Portugal to tackle the infamous Nazaré whenever it broke. Two Nazaré Tow Challenge victories later, her talents have now seen the Frenchwoman cross the seas to tackle Mavericks in California and Jaws in Maui, where she successfully navigated the best female tube ride of all time. “It’s nice to be recognized as one of the best big wave surfers in the world, for all sorts of reasons,” says Justine. “I’ve dedicated myself to Nazaré, to big waves, and it makes me feel like I’m doing the right thing. Being recognized means that I can follow my dreams, and follow the storms and the waves I want to surf.” Strap yourself in, hit play on the video above and prepare to enter the world of Justine Dupont, you're in for the ride of a lifetime. Surfing in Singapore... Yes, There Are Waves

I haven't given much thought to Surfing in Singapore, until now. Let me break it all down for you... Sure the waves are small and very seasonal, but honestly so are the waves in Florida, USA and I've surf those tiny waves and still had a good time. Maybe that makes me a die hard surfer, but lets agree that there are many ways to catch waves, ride waves, glide on waves and cruise on waves (even the concrete ones). So let's a take a few minutes and go down the rabbit hole together and discover just how cool Singapore is for adventurous die hard surfers, skaters and people that just want to try something new. Lets get to it...

Local professional surfers take on Singapore's famous wave pool. 8 foot barrels and big airs the guys were absolutely sending it! + I try and surf it at the end! Wave house is the name of the wave pool and its located on Singapore's Sentosa Island. The wave can be completely altered as you will see towards the end of the video when they fire it up. It can run as a tiny 1 foot wave all the way up to a roaring 8+ foot wave with a massive barrel section. The local pro surfers make it look so easy as but as will see at the end when I have a go it's incredibly difficult. Now I'm a pretty good surfer but I really struggled to pick this up, it feels absolutely nothing like normal surfing but man it hurts just the same when you wipeout 😂 Sentosa island is a small island resort on the south of Singapores mainland thats jam packed full of fun and all within a short walking distance. The island is home to Universal studios, the wave pool "Wave House", a water park, a zoo, bunji jumps, downhill kart racing, madam Tussauds, ziplines, beach clubs, fireworks displays, 3D cinemas, loads of bars and restaurant and that's just to name a few things. Oh and I did I mention that to get there you ride over in a Gondola thats hundreds of meters up in the air!

Kiteboarding, also known as kitesurfing, is a sport where one rides on a board and controls a kite such that he or she is propelled across the water. Kiteboarding is set to make its inaugural bow at the next games in Paris. There are about 400 kiteboarders in Singapore and the Kitesurfing Association of Singapore (KAS) hopes to grow the sport locally, and develop an elite field of kiteboarders in Singapore. https://www.straitstimes.com/multimed... The Straits Times executive photojournalist Kevin Lim documents the up and coming sport and the challenges it faces as the local organisation hopes to create awareness for the sport and have more of their own represent Singapore at the highest level.
