Surfing in Levanto, Italy (One Day)

One of my favorite places in the world is a little town in Italy called Levanto. I think the last time I was there was in July of 2009 and it's one of the few places that I could see myself never leaving. Back when I was there the surf was really small but I had heard of some of the locals talk about when the surf gets big, double over head and bigger. I did some searching on the internet and found a few shots of the surf in Levanto, Italy… Check it out:

Here's a few more shots of Cinque Terre, the 5 cities just to the south of Levanto. Check it out:

Car surfing reportedly being banned by Saudi Arabian killjoys (Via en.rocketnews24.com)

Sometimes, I feel sorry for kids in today’s safety zealous world. More and more, it seems like the things I grew up with are being banned, whether it’s the thrilling bloodsport of dodgeball or the razor’s edge of a cafeteria in which some people are allowed to eat peanut butter.
Now comes the latest step in the inevitable march towards a global nanny state, as Saudi Arabia is apparently moving to ban the undeniably safe pastime of car surfing.
Yes, like flamethrowers and miniguns in the U.S., it seems that until recently car surfing in Saudi Arabia was on the list of incredibly cool-looking things that hadn’t been outlawed yet.
▼ Somehow considered less dangerous than talking on a cell phone while behind the wheel
CS 5
Although you can’t technically call it car surfing without someone risking his life riding the outside edge of the vehicle, the angular driving techniques required for the exhibition have become the subject of a number of popular YouTube videos.
CS 2
But while up until now the Saudi Arabian government has seen fit to let these vehicular shenanigans go unchecked, it seems the golden era is ending for gearheads in the country who are interested in possibly losing a limb as long as they have a chance to become Internet famous for a few days along the way.
CS 6
Saudi Arabia’s worrywart legislators are reported to be moving to ban car surfing, imposing fines equal to US$2,600 as well as seizing violators’ cars.
▼ Frankly, we’re amazed they could come to the conclusion car surfing is dangerous when it doesn’t even require your automobile to have four wheels.
CS 3
Rumor has it that people caught watching the displays will be fined as well, with the ostensible intent being to encourage would-be spectators to look for entertainment elsewhere. With smaller crowds, the idea is that fewer drivers will bother to show up.
While the objective is a noble one, we can’t help but point out that this also means that if you happen to already be watching some car surfing, you now have nothing to lose by joining in.
▼ Especially when car surfing can so easily be adapted into a team sport

Eat Your Vegetables (#11) by Relearning Creativity

When I was a kid I didn't like to eat my vegetables. At the time I didn't see a need for them. I used to joke to my mom that I would catch up on eating all my vegetables at our next Thanksgiving dinner which of course was months away. I understand now that my mom wanted me to be healthy and vegetables are good for me. This segment is about eating your vegetables, well mentally. The vegetables that I'll be dishing out to you are for your own good. It's a dose of getting exposed to something that might be new to most of you, even outside of the usual surf culture. It's ok if you don't like it, but like my mom said,"at least give it a try before next Thanksgiving."

Forget what you know: Jacob Barnett at TEDxTeen

Jacob Barnett is an American mathematician and child prodigy. At 8 years old, Jacob began sneaking into the back of college lectures at IUPUI. After being diagnosed with autism since the age of two and placed in his school's special ed. program, Jacob's teachers and doctors were astonished to learn he was able to teach calculus to college students.

At age nine, while playing with shapes, Jacob built a series of mathematical models that expanded Einstein's field of relativity. A professor at Princeton reviewed his work and confirmed that it was groundbreaking and could someday result in a Nobel Prize. At age 10, Jacob was formally accepted to the University as a full-time college student and went straight into a paid research position in the field of condensed matter physics. For his original work in this field, Jacob set a record, becoming the world's youngest astrophysics researcher. His paper was subsequently accepted for publication by Physical Review A, a scientific journal shared on sites such as NASA, the Smithsonian, and Harvard's webpage. Jacob's work aims to help improve the way light travels in technology.

Jacob is also CEO and founder of Wheel LLC, a business he started in his mom's garage, and is in the process of writing a book to help end "math phobia" in his generation.

Jacob's favorite pastime is playing basketball with the kids at his charity, Jacob's Place. It is a place where kids with autism are inspired every day to be their true authentic selves...just like Jacob.

Learn to travel -- travel to learn: Robin Esrock at TEDxVanc

Published on Feb 1, 2013
Robin Esrock's success as a global adventurer, travel writer, TV producer and international TV personality was no accident, although it did start with one. Struck down on his bike at a Vancouver intersection, Robin hobbled away with a broken kneecap, and one year later, a modest $20,000 insurance settlement. It was just enough for him pack up his things, quit his job, and set off on a one-year solo round-the-world backpacking adventure to 24 countries. He named his journey Modern Gonzo, and committed to record his year of living dangerously, with online weekly reports, photography, videos, and interviews with every person he met. In doing so, he pioneered a new era of multi-platform, switched-on and wired-in travel journalism, leading to adventures beyond his wildest dreams.
