In this short film i would like to tell you about the surfing and travelling in south Nias, western Sumatra, Indonesia. I was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks front of, one of the best right-hander wave on earth, the Point in Nias, in Lagundri bay. I hope you will enjoy this short guiding and if you are a regular footer, they say, you have to surf this wave at least once in your life. I did it now and i know i have to return again! Lightness and happiness characterize the perfect connection between surfer and wave. Wolthers shows his style, on top of his middle-lenght (midway model from Seventy Surfboards), in beautiful tubular rights and without crowd. The film was edited by Heitor Vallim, and images by Iyan Wau, Augus, Julius Wau, Paul and Caio Mariani. Alongside my obsession with surf travel, I’ve worked as a surf coach for many years, teaching beginners and intermediates in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Thought it was time to share my surf coaching knowledge with you!! Let me know what you think of this style of video and hope you find it helpful :)) Top Intermediate Surf Tips 1. Surfboard - Don’t progress down too quickly (More board is easier) 2. Line-up - Watch the line-up before paddling out 3. Reading Waves - Surf in all different conditions (more reference points) 4. Looking - Your head & shoulders lead the way! 5. Compression - Compression/extension movement means more speed 6. Top/down - Top/down movement = speed. Avoid trimming only in the middle 7. Footwork - Shift your feet. Forward for speed, back to turn (standing over the fins) 8. Visualisation - Imagine what you’re going to do before you do it. 9. Stay in the moment - Be present while you surf 10. Surf movies - Watch as much good surfing as possible 11.
