Surfing in Singapore... Yes, There Are Waves

I haven't given much thought to Surfing in Singapore, until now. Let me break it all down for you... Sure the waves are small and very seasonal, but honestly so are the waves in Florida, USA and I've surf those tiny waves and still had a good time. Maybe that makes me a die hard surfer, but lets agree that there are many ways to catch waves, ride waves, glide on waves and cruise on waves (even the concrete ones). So let's a take a few minutes and go down the rabbit hole together and discover just how cool Singapore is for adventurous die hard surfers, skaters and people that just want to try something new. Lets get to it...

Local professional surfers take on Singapore's famous wave pool. 8 foot barrels and big airs the guys were absolutely sending it! + I try and surf it at the end! Wave house is the name of the wave pool and its located on Singapore's Sentosa Island. The wave can be completely altered as you will see towards the end of the video when they fire it up. It can run as a tiny 1 foot wave all the way up to a roaring 8+ foot wave with a massive barrel section. The local pro surfers make it look so easy as but as will see at the end when I have a go it's incredibly difficult. Now I'm a pretty good surfer but I really struggled to pick this up, it feels absolutely nothing like normal surfing but man it hurts just the same when you wipeout 😂 Sentosa island is a small island resort on the south of Singapores mainland thats jam packed full of fun and all within a short walking distance. The island is home to Universal studios, the wave pool "Wave House", a water park, a zoo, bunji jumps, downhill kart racing, madam Tussauds, ziplines, beach clubs, fireworks displays, 3D cinemas, loads of bars and restaurant and that's just to name a few things. Oh and I did I mention that to get there you ride over in a Gondola thats hundreds of meters up in the air!

Kiteboarding, also known as kitesurfing, is a sport where one rides on a board and controls a kite such that he or she is propelled across the water. Kiteboarding is set to make its inaugural bow at the next games in Paris. There are about 400 kiteboarders in Singapore and the Kitesurfing Association of Singapore (KAS) hopes to grow the sport locally, and develop an elite field of kiteboarders in Singapore. https://www.straitstimes.com/multimed... The Straits Times executive photojournalist Kevin Lim documents the up and coming sport and the challenges it faces as the local organisation hopes to create awareness for the sport and have more of their own represent Singapore at the highest level.
