TEAHUPO'O | THROUGH THE LENS OF DOM MOSQUEIRA...And More

Awesome video about Surf Photographer Dom Mosqueira... Check this out!

TEAHUPO'O | THROUGH THE LENS OF DOM MOSQUEIRA

In this film we dive deep into the life of big wave surf photographer Dom Mosqueira. Spending his youth as a vagabond Dom sailed his way to Tahiti and never left. Living in proximity to one of the worlds biggest and most dangerous waves, Dom Mosqueira risks life and limb in pursuit of the perfect photograph of world class surfers riding the worlds most dangerous wave, Teahupo'o. Surf photography perfected through the lens of Dom Mosqueira. He was born in Mexico, schooled in Canada, worked for Richard Branson in the British Virgin Islands and discovered his new home, Tahiti, while sailing around French Polynesia — Dom Mosqueira might just be the most interesting photographer in the world. You’ve seen his work on the cover of SURFING and beyond, most often from the water at Teahupo’o. We have always been fascinated with people who followed their passions, lived with an almost singular focus, and done so successfully. Living the type of lives that don’t fit into our societal norms. The lives most people dream of. The ones that leave us wondering how these people pull it off? What did they do differently that not only allowed them to pursue their passions, but were actually able to do so with real success. Leading self sufficient, thriving lives in high risk, unconventional ways. We spend our days seeking out these individuals and telling their stories through our short films. We have focused on artists, athletes, and adventurers that threw caution to the wind, laid it all on the line, and actually pulled it off! Find out what makes these high performing individuals tick. Dive into the minds of some of our generations most fascinating humans through cinematic adventures told through our lens. We will be releasing teasers content and behind the scenes stories to go along with and build up to the release of the actual short films. We will be releasing new content across our social channels daily and new posts here bi weekly. So if you like what you see, subscribe and give us a follow so you don’t miss anything. Chasing The Curve: A Portrait Of The Sea - The Book by Trent Mitchell

I was looking around the internet looking for images and pointers about surf photography and stumbled on a few really great surf shots on 35mm by Trent Mitchell from Australia. It seems like there are a lot of people taking notice of him from places like Surfing Magazine, Surfer MagazineClub of the Waves and other bloggers out there (like me). This is what they are saying:

CHASING THE CURVE: A PORTRAIT OF THE SEA
BY TRENT MITCHELL

Trent Mitchell’s first solo book – Chasing the Curve:
a Portrait of the Sea – is a collection of his finest personal work to date, presented in a beautiful hardback format. Images rendered on 35mm film and meticulously reproduced as they were captured, the photographs transport you through a powerfully abstract journey surrounding the cyclic moods of the sea. From awe-inspiring seascape panoramas, to dramatically surreal moments in turbulent seas, Trent presents a visual exploration of light, energy and water with a diversity and eye like no-other.

Mid-Week Vacation.. All you can surf at San Onofre

I was lucky to hear about this swell on Monday from Skip at work.. and even luckier to get Tuesday (yesterday) off work on short notice (approved vacation)… and surfed O’fre with my other friend Skip. I know you are thinking "how many people named Skip does this guy know": The answer is 2. There's one at Work that I met about a year ago and also a totally different guy that I've know from the last 15 years- weird but true.

Tuesday 8-7-12 Ofre 3-5+ and so good:
It was overcast when I arrived at 6:30 am and after I finished my morning cup of coffee I figured I would wear my spring suit (long legs with short sleeves) for the fist session. The water was real nice, not cold, not hot, it was just right.

The fog burned off in the late morning and turned into a nice sunny day with very little wind. The surf would pump in shoulder high on the smaller waves and overhead on the bigger sets, then go flat for 20 minutes or so and then turn back on and pump again.

The outside sets were rolly and were harder to catch, you really had to sit in the “A” frame pit and take off just before the wave broke on you which can take little getting used to. You could easily ride a head high wave for about 100 yards, but sometimes you’d have to dodge a herd of people paddling out.

I decided to take my Canon G10 with a waterproof housing out just to see how it felt. I should've paddled out with a boogie board of just fins but I paddled out on my longboard with the camera just balancing on the nose of my board. Even with the flotation strap on I wasn't feeling very good about it. I sat in the channel between Old mans and the first point (north of old mans) and took a few pictures. I think next time I'll bring my GoPro with the wrist strap and see how that works out.

Just an average wave that is 50 feet thick
I put in about 8 hours of surfing for the day with a few breaks to re-hydrate and snack. I finally had to call it a day after my arms and legs started cramping up and I had no more strength to keep paddling. Totally worth it. I took this picture just before I left. This was an average wave breaking on the middle to inside section at the first point (north of old mans).
