Eat Your Vegetables JWST... Wait What? (#14, Science, Surfing, ASL)

(Did I mention I worked on JWST?)

This segment is about eating your vegetables, well mentally. The vegetables that I'll be dishing out to you are for your own good. It's a dose of getting exposed to something that might be new to most of you, even outside of the usual surf culture. It's ok if you don't like it, but like my mom said,"at least give it a try before next Thanksgiving."

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) sees the universe in light that is invisible to human eyes. This light is called infrared radiation, and we can feel it as heat. Firefighters use infrared cameras to see and rescue people through the smoke in a fire. The James Webb Space Telescope will use its infrared cameras to see through dust in our universe. It's 100 times more powerful than the Hubble space telescope and will keep scientist, philosophers, and dreamers busy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the next 40 years (or longer)!

You might be thinking.."That's pretty cool but what's that got to do with surfing?"...

Well I'm glad you asked. JWST has the technology to search distant galaxies for planets that are in livable zones (the same type that matches earth). And wouldn't it be cool if there was another planet out there with perfect surf that we could travel to. Sign me up for that! Image the rises, sunsets, and the uncrowded waves. Maybe the water is a different color like red, green or violet. Maybe there are already surfers out there on distant planets with new technologies and awesome new surf tricks that can be pulled in less atmospheric gravity... Sure would be cool if that was out there and JWST was the tool that connected us to a new leap forward in the galactic world of surfing in this amazing universe.

Below are a few videos that show how JWST is increasing the awesomeness and unlocking more secrets of the universe.. check it out:

Seeing The Universe Like We've Never Seen It Before

Now that the James Webb Space Telescope has released its first images, it’s time for the science programs to begin. We meet 5 scientists who will be using the telescope during its first cycle of operations looking at the earliest galaxies, red giant stars in the disc of Andromeda, star forming regions in the MIlky Way and nearby galaxies, the Trappist-1 exoplanet system, and mysterious icy bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune. #JamesWebb #NASA #Space

ASL Surf Lingo and Summer Sign Vocabulary

There are more people surfing than ever before, and some of those surfers may not be able to hear. Maybe they have surfers ear, hearing loss or maybe they are deaf. Being mindful of different spoken languages and Sign Languages are very important for beach, ocean, and surfing safety (your safety and the people around you is very important). So I put together this post to help those who enjoy learning about surfing and ASL.

If you find other Surf Instruction videos that utilize ASL please let me know, I'd love to check them out. Also comment below what you like about these ASL videos.  Check it out:
