8th Annual POST-IT Art Show at Giant Robot 2... By Eric Cedeno

I heard about this 8^th Annual POST-IT art show at Giant Robot 2 in Santa Monica (CA) from my girlfriend who heard about from her friend Bill Main. Bill was doing some art for the show and my girlfriend was looking forward to going there to check it out on opening night on Saturday December 8^th 2012. She said that Audrey Kawasaki was also going to have some art there and that really got her interested in it. It turns out that there are over 260 artist showing art on over 2000 Post-Its for only $25 each.

My girlfriend got off work and we jumped in my car and headed north on the 405 freeway. Traffic was slow and still crazy and I saw at least three accidents along the way. We finally made it down Sawlette Blv and found a pretty good parking spot and added an hours worth of quarters to the meter. We strolled down the sidewalk to the Giant Robot 2 entrance.

There was already a big crowd at the door and we walked in just a few minutes after 6:00 pm. There were signs that read, “Take a Number” so we did and pulled #96. A moment later I heard one of the staff members yell, “ Now serving #14.” I wasn’t sure if we were actually going to get anything, or even if anything would be left by the time they reach #96, but I held on to the number just incase things went faster than I expected.

I was on sensory overload, the place was jammed packed and there was a slow and steady wave of people rotating around the walls. We slid in and I started taking notes on which ones I wanted. We both took some pictures of the action on the walls. All the artists works were scatted around the three major walls of the room and it was fun to try find all the ones from the same artist / series.

After our third time around the room the staff members called out our number #96 and I quickly herded my assign staff member to places of the Post-It’s that I wanted, hoping that some of them might still be there. I ended up buying 5. I may go back again and get a few more later on, I don’t know yet, but I’ll keep you Post-It…
