Bodyboarding is Pretty Rad (Yes- I said it)

Sure bodyboarding has gotten a bad reputation in some places, but I have to admit that you can definitely maximize that barrel time on a bodyboard... Check these out:

Why Bodyboarding is the Unknown Origin of Surfing

Did you know bodyboarding is behind the origins of surfing? Documentary filmmaker Andy Burgess teams up with Bodyboarding champion Hugo Pinheiro to travel to Hawaii to discover the origins of Bodyboarding and challenge each other to battle the infamous waves of Hawaii.

Bodyboard PIPELINE POV Highlights Hawaii 2022

This is a compilation of the best POV clips that I got on my season to Hawaii. All footage was taken on the GoPro Hero 10 and some of it is never seen before. These clips were taken in the months of February and March. Backflipping over a bodysurfer is possibly one of my favourite clips and if you have been on my Instagram you would have already seen this...

Mike Stewart paddles Big Nazaré [bodyboard]

Mike Stewart returned to the world's most famous underwater canyon, two years after riding a few giants alongside Dudu Pedra. Despite the challenging ocean conditions, the Hawaiian bodyboarder, 55, paddled out on his own at Praia do Norte, in Nazaré, and attacked the mighty waves without jet ski support. The swell, influenced by tropical storm Leslie, was sending waves in the 20-to-40-foot range. Stewart paddled into his mountains of choice and then got back to the lineup using arm power only. "The way I figured things was that if I couldn’t make the paddle out, then I probably shouldn’t try to handle the conditions," explained Stewart.

Brad Domke rides the biggest skimboarding wave of all time (Via SurferToday.com)

If there were any doubts, Brad Domke has put them to rest. Big wave skimboarding is here to stay and impress. Prepare to watch the biggest wave ever ridden on a skimboard.

The Floridian skimboarder has ridden what is widely considered the largest wave ever on a skimboard. Domke took off on a massive barreling ride at Puerto Escondido, Mexico, in early July, alongside Shane Dorian.
While riding big waves on a surfboard is no longer a secret, holding the line on a finless skimboard is a different story.
Brad Domke's hollow wave at Puerto Escondido not only is the biggest skimboarding wave of all time, but it also opens a new chapter in the history of the sport.
It's time to invest in skimboarding. There are more and better skimmers, agile and established tours, steady and sustainable brands. The International Surfing Association (ISA) may play a key role in the development of skimboarding.
Take an in-depth look at Brad Domke, the master of big wave skimboarding.

World's Longest Surf Ride...On A River

World's Longest Surf Ride: Brit Catches 12.8-Mile Wave

Goes far upstream on Sumatran river’s “tidal bore”

from theactivetimes.com Via SurferToday.com.

This 12.8 mile river ride was anything but “boring.” Thick equatorial jungle crept up to either bank, baby crocs with unseen mamas flashed their reptilian eyes above the surface, and the only thing between Steve King, 48, and the muddy waters of Sumatra’s Kampar River was a surfboard.
King, a British railway engineer and longtime surfer, rode the tidal wave, known as the Bono, for a record-shattering 64 minutes, going a distance nearly equal to the length of Manhattan, before the wave finally spent itself deep in the Indonesian island’s interior.
The previous record? A 7.6-mile ride up Britain’s Severn River in 2006 by none other than Steve King.
“I’ve been surfing for 30 years, and the Bono on Kampar River was only discovered in recent years, so I had to do it,” said King to British news service South West News.
“The waves go up to 25 mph and reach ten feet, so they are three times as big as on the Severn,” he added.
The Bono is a phenomenon known as a “tidal bore,” in which seasonal high tides cause certain rivers to flow backwards from the sea for miles due to a rapid narrowing upstream. This particular bore, known as “Seven Ghosts” to the locals, first came to the attention of wave riders in 2010, according to SurferToday.com, and is already spawning a small tourist economy around new surf camps.
King is no stranger to this brackish brand of surfing, having ridden the Severn’s bore for decades now, and braving the Amazon’s piranha-filled Pororoca wave in 2011—check out that ride in the video above.
